In fact, the only thing I managed to do for the room was stop by Target to option up two more mantle panels.

I'grand definitely going to be scrambling this weekend, because I notwithstanding want to build myself an awesome looking headboard. I'm not much of a carpenter, only I do take a vision. We'll see how that goes and if I can pull it off by side by side week!

A Painted Dresser Transformation

This chalk painted dresser is such a gorgeous transformation from the old pine stain. What a super simple dresser makeover with tutorial!

This dresser has been passed around between family members for years, and it concluded up with me in my flat a few years ago. I had intended to paint it correct abroad, simply fourth dimension passed and a couple years later it had moved to our house yet unpainted.

The stain finish on the dresser was a weird colour, and it wasn't very well done. There were some baste marks and also a few spots on the sides that weren't covered very well.

I knew that painting this dresser was definitely something I would tackle in our bedroom makeover and, now that it's finished, I'm kicking myself for not painting it much before!

Prep Piece of work

The inside of the drawers were lined with a kiddish contact paper. It wasn't fifty-fifty cut well, just sort of slapped on in a poor attempt to cover upward the pink floral patterned paper underneath. I removed all of the drawers and pulled out all the paper from their bottoms. Thankfully information technology pulled upwards really easily!

I also removed all of the wooden knobs from the drawers.

I wiped down the entire dresser with a degreaser. It cleaned off all the dust and grime that had built upwardly, leaving it clean and ready for paint.

This dresser was quite beat out upwardly, so I used my electrical sander to vitrify the top a fleck and remove some of the light scratches. I besides filled in a couple of the deeper nicks with a bit of wood filler.

Painting

I've ever shied away from piece of furniture painting. It seemed like such an involved procedure to strip off the stain and await for coat after coat afterwards coat of paint to dry. I decided to give chalk pigment a try for the first time considering I had read that it could be applied straight over pigment or stain–no sanding or stripping required. That sounded like a time saver to me!

So I headed to the hardware shop and picked upwardly this chalk paint in Chelsea Square. I managed to do ii coats on this dresser using just one 8 oz. jar of paint! Information technology is quite thick and covers extremely well.

I painted all of the dresser base of operations, equally well as the front end of the drawers. I used a simple ii inch angled castor to paint the entire affair. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly this chalk pigment dried!

One coat looked pretty great, but I decided to do i more for actress coverage. I didn't take enough chalk paint to cover the insides of the drawers, and then I opted to employ up some leftover calorie-free gray pigment from our dining room walls. This paint didn't cover near besides, and took two generous coats to encompass the insides of the drawers and the sides.

Line The Drawers

Since the dresser itself is simple white with a lighter grey inside the drawers, I wanted a popular of fun pattern to line the drawer bottoms. I had a roll of blackness and white wrapping paper on hand and cut pieces to lay in my drawers, using a few minor dots of pasty tack to attach the newspaper. That style it's like shooting fish in a barrel to remove or change in the future.

Coat With Light Wax

The final step of this painted dresser was to comprehend the entire thing with a coat of this calorie-free antiquarian wax. This light wax dries clear and gives the furniture a protective finish since the chalk pigment is porous and easy to scratch without something on meridian of it.

I practical the wax with a ane inch angled brush, post-obit the instructions on the wax. Once it was brushed on, I used an erstwhile textile to buff it into the forest. This waxing step went a lot faster than I expected, and gave the dresser a polished finish.

Replace The Knobs

My last pace was to supercede the drawer knobs. D. Lawless Hardware provided these gorgeous diamond acrylic knobs. They came with the hardware, which made it super simple to screw them on using the existing holes drilled in the drawers.

Don't they look stunning? The knobs added the perfect affect of glam to this dresser, and instantly gave it a feminine look. It feels like such a treat to pull these shiny knobs when I get dressed every morning!

When I moved the dresser back into our bedroom and saw it confronting the newly painted navy walls, I was beside myself. It looked amazing! I was nervous near the deep navy walls, and also a trivial anxious I was going overboard with white. Just I'm so happy with how this painted dresser projection turned out. It looks fabulous in our sleeping accommodation.

What I idea was going to be extremely time intensive only took me a few hours over ii weeknights to complete. Some other benefit of chalk paint is that information technology doesn't take much of an odor, then I painted the whole thing in our dining room using a canvas of plastic to protect the floor.

The paint covered everything so well, and I'thou still amazed that I didn't need to strip off the stain underneath. The chalk paint adhered right to it, which saved then much time. I'll definitely exist doing a lot more furniture projects in my time to come!
